Mission PASCD, educators impacting teaching and learning through leadership. Beliefs We believe: -
All learners must have equal access to a quality education. -
Curriculum, instruction, and assessment must meet the needs of all learners. -
Decisions about student learning and program effectiveness must be based on information from a variety of data sources and diverse assessments. -
Educators must seize leadership roles that shape and influence educational practices, policies, and decisions. -
Teaching and learning are to be supported through the integration of information tools and technologies. -
The processes of curriculum development, supervision, teaching, and learning are dynamic and interdependent. -
Professional development is essential to all educators. -
Educational accomplishments shall be identified, shared, and celebrated.
Goals, Objectives and Action Plans Goal I: PASCD will use information technologies as a means of promoting (standard-based) curriculum and "lifelong" professional development. Objective A: Deliver professional development via technology. Action Plan: Identify members’ needs and capacity to access technology. Determine mode of delivery (web, video conferencing). Develop and design programs and plans. Evaluate mode and delivery annually. Responsibility: Professional Development Committee Objective B: Provide curriculum models technologically through its web site. Action Plan: Identify client/user needs for curriculum models through survey. Establish standards of quality for models. Identify curriculum models that meet standards. Construct format for displaying web materials. Put materials on web. Attempt to establish links with other web sites (e.g. ASCD.PDE). Monitor use and report to Board periodically. Update materials. Responsibility: Curriculum Committee, Technology Committee, Publishing Committee, Webmaster, Executive Director, President Goal II: PASCD will focus program and services on latest research and best practices. Objective A: Develop data-base curriculum, instructional, supervisory, and staff development programs that reflect best practices and latest research. Action Plan: Identify potential sources for data-base. Develop a mechanism for "screening" potential listings. Develop a plan which includes matching the program with the best vehicle for dissemination. Update the data-base periodically. Include provisions for adding new programs. Include recognition component. Responsibility: Regional President, Committee Chairs, Executive Board, ` Publicity Committee, Webmaster, Conference Committee, Professional Development Committee,Professional Coordinator, Supervision, Letter from President, Awards Committee Objective B: Action plan will be developed in the future. Goal III: PASCD will serve as an advocate for children by providing a forum for educational leaders to promote high quality education and effective decision making. Objective A: Adopt position on issues related to the needs of children and their learning. Action Plan: At least annually survey the membership to identify key influence issues. Communicate results of information to the membership and develop a process to prepare position papers consistent with identified priorities. Externally, promote the position of PaASCD to appropriate agencies and media. Responsibility: Legislative Committee Objective B: Action plan will be developed in the future. Goal IV: PASCD will provide the leadership to build the capacity of schools and school systems for change and restructuring. Objective A: Recognize and publicize change efforts that positively impact student learning. Action Plan: Establish criteria against which exemplary programs are judged. Solicit Pennsylvania school districts that believe they are meeting criteria for exemplary programs/practices that positively impact students. Review and evaluate submissions. Plan for awards. Disseminate exemplary program information throughout Pennsylvania. Responsibility: Curriculum Committee (sub comm.), Publications Committee Objective B: An action plan will be developed in the future. Goal V: PASCD will utilize technology to manage the organization, establish a viable education network and provide services to members. Objective A: An action plan will be developed in the future. Objective B: Expand the capacity to communicate with the membership through technology. Action Plan: Create widespread awareness of the open forum feature on web site. Use of electronic surveys to solicit information from the membership. Advertise professional development opportunities offered by PASCD and other organizations on the web site. Post selected documents or timely issues. Responsibility: Executive Board, Standing Committees, Marketing Director, Publications Committee Goal VI: PASCD will promote diversity and active involvement in its membership, governance, and programs. Objective A: Increase the diversity of our membership. Action Plan: Gather baseline data about the membership. (Establish data base). Analyze data and target groups for membership. Determine effective recruitment strategies at state and regional levels. Implement strategies. Monitor progress. Responsibility: Membership Committee, Executive Director Objective B: Action plan will be developed in the future.
