August 2010
Dear Members,
I have recently returned from our annual PASCD Executive Board Retreat held this year in the city of Erie with our new PASCD Executive Board President, Dr. Gary Robinson.
Like all good retreats, a large part of the two days was spent discussing the future.
PASCD is dealing with the challenges of all statewide professional organizations with budget trimming, the sputtering economy, and the shrinking number of educators, as well as some unique challenges- the resignation of our long time treasurer and the impending resignations of our Executive Director, Jim Warnock and our Policy Specialist, Win Cleland. The board is viewing this as a tremendous opportunity to restructure and experiment. Not unlike what is happening in our schools.
Other issues we discussed include:
• The PASCD Strategic Plan
• Our upcoming PASCD conference
Information on our 60th Annual PASCD conference Learning is Forever at the Hershey Lodge November 21st through 23rd can be found at http://www.pascd.org/annualconference.cfm. Our exciting keynotes include:
- Dr. Heidi Hayes Jacobs
- Dr. Michael Schmoker
- Dr. Charlene Brennan.
On the local level, we are holding our annual DVR-PASCD retreat this month where we will review our strategic plan, set goals for next year and share what is happening at the state level. We hope as a region, no matter what happens at the state level, we are able to meet your needs. Do not hesitate to contact us.
